How do I encourage another rider?

When you log your first three rides manually during a Challenge, you're asked if someone encouraged you to ride. If you type in their name, they get credit for encouraging you! You can also trigger this manually by clicking 'add an encourager' on your profile page just below your profile picture.

NB: You can only select one encourager (not one for every ride).

Who is a new rider? Who is not?

When someone joins the site they fill out a baseline survey - everyone is then designated a new rider or existing rider based on the information they provide during that survey. New riders are folks who've rarely ridden in the last 12 months.

How do I sync with an app?

You can sync your Love to Ride profile with Strava or MapMyRide by visiting your profile page settings, and following the appropriate link and instructions there.

We also have our own Love to Ride app, which you can use to log your rides. Download it from Google Play or Apple's App Store.

Why aren't my app rides showing up yet? Why are some of them missing?

Our system pulls data in batches and relies on the other app to push those batches, so it may take time for your rides to show up in Love to Ride. Rest assured, your info will be pulled over - it just may take a couple of hours.

NB. Stationary, indoor, and virtual rides (logged with Zwift for instance) cannot be synced to the site from another app.

STILL NOT SHOWING?

What counts as a commute?

All rides tagged as rides to/from work count as commutes. Rides to/from other destinations should use some of the other tags.

Individual Top Commuter leaderboards count all days tagged as rides to/from work and add them up for the given period. The same thing applies on the Group leaderboards for Most Commute Days. All team members' rides to/from work are added to see get the total.

Do indoor rides count?

September 2020 update: We are temporarily allowing indoor rides to be logged manually on the site. This will be under ongoing review.

Indoor bikes are great exercise but cannot be logged on Love to Ride. We want bikes to be perceived as more than just something you exercise on. Bikes can help us achieve sustainability goals, public health targets and make our cities and regions better places to live in. Focusing on outdoor rides helps us achieve those goals.

How do I log a ride to/from work?

  • Go to your profile.
  • Scroll down to your rides.
  • Find the ride you want to edit and click the little pencil icon.
  • Choose 'Transport to/from work' in the dropdown and click 'Save'.
  • The ride will update after you refresh the page.

If you use Strava, then you can tag your ride as 'Commute' and then it will come across as a ride to/from work on your Love to Ride profile automatically. Please make sure you only use the commute tag in Strava for rides to/from work to keep the leaderboards fair for all riders. :-)

Can I see more stats?

Yes! At the top of your profile page you can specify the year, Challenge, or get all-time stats on how far you've ridden, how many trips you've logged, and more.

How do I find my friends?

You can find folks by looking at the workplaces tab and finding their workplace, then scrolling down to them on the roster. We're working to make this easier in the future though!

Can I take part using an adaptive bike?

Yes, Love to Ride is open to everyone. Anyone can create a profile, and during a challenge you can earn points by logging a ride AND by encouraging others to ride as well. Because riders have varying abilities, there are many different variations of adaptive cycles.

Read more about these options on the Move United website.

Can I log e-bike rides?

Yes! You're welcome to log e-bike rides. E-bikes make cycling more accessible as they can minimise some barriers (such as tricky hills and long distances) and that help us achieve our goal of getting more people riding outside.

Workplace questions

How can my workplace take part?

You can create a workplace profile or site that will be the online cycling community and encouragement platform for your organisation. If you’re interested in getting a profile for your workplace, please set up your workplace profile page here.

Who can join my workplace on Love to Ride?

All paid employees of your workplace can join your workplace on Love to Ride and should be included in the staff count. When verifying the staff count of your workplace, you may exclude colleagues who are on maternity leave, long-term sick leave, sabbatical, other long-term leave, or based outside of the UK for the full duration of the challenge period.

If your workplace has volunteers working with it, you can choose to include volunteers in your team, but you need to adjust the total size of your workplace accordingly. For example, if you have 15 staff on your payroll and 20 volunteers and you want to have your volunteers join your team and ride and earn points, then they’re welcome to! You would simply enter your ‘staff count’ as 35 people (you can see and edit your staff count here). If you don’t want to include your volunteers at all, then you can keep your staff count at 15 people. This helps ensure a level playing field. Got a question? Get in touch!

Other people associated with your workplace who are not employees may want to create a club/group. Employees can also join the group.

If you work at a school, your workplace profile should only include staff. Students may create a club/group.

We encourage everyone to check and confirm their staff numbers by ticking the box on your organisation's profile page. It's important to have accurate staff numbers to ensure that the competition is as fair as possible. Once this has been done, it can't be reversed, so make sure you have double checked before doing this. If there will be changes in numbers due to staff joining or leaving then remember to make allowances for this.
