What is the Bike Easy April Challenge?

This April, everyone in Greater New Orleans is invited to join the Bike Easy April Challenge, a fun, free competition to get more people on bikes.

The challenge is a celebration of biking in New Orleans and is a fun competition between community groups, workplaces and individuals to see which can earn the most points by riding and encouraging others to try riding a bike during April.

For the Bike Easy April Challenge it doesn't matter if you ride every day or if you haven't been on a bike in years. You only have to ride for ten minutes to take part and you will also be rewarded for encouraging others to ride. Indoor rides count, too! To ensure a safe and fun activity for all participants only solo rides or rides with your household are encouraged.

Generous supporters and bike friendly businesses across the Greater New Orleans region are donating fantastic prizes that individuals and teams can qualify for by riding their bikes during the Bike Easy April Challenge. Let's celebrate and explore New Orleans and stay connected through Love to Ride!

How it works

You and your workplace earn points for every mile you ride, every day you ride, and for every person you encourage to register (they don't have to be in your workplace - they just have to log a ride during April). The points system has been carefully selected to ensure a fair and exciting competition, and to strongly encourage participants to engage new riders if they want to climb the leaderboard and secure victory.

Ride anywhere, anytime for just 10 minutes to participate. Riders and workplaces will increase their chances of winning prizes by scoring the most points for their rides and for encouraging others to ride. The more often you log rides and encourage others to log their rides, the more likely you are to win a prize!

Not working? No problem. You can participate as an individual, and can even join a club/group and see which can ride the most miles and days in April.

You've got all of April to get out on a bike and earn points.

Points

Points are earned as follows:

You earn points by riding and encouraging others to ride as per above. The more points you earn... the more chances you have of winning some great prizes!

Encourager points

When someone signs up and logs their first three rides for the Bike Easy April Challenge, a prompt asks them if someone in particular encouraged them. If they identify you as their encourager, you get points!

Existing vs new rider

When a person signs up on the platform and when they register for a challenge, they’re asked how much riding they’ve done in the last 12 months. If they answer a few a times or less, they’re classified as a new rider. People that ride more often are classified as existing riders.

Workplace Points

Your workplace's points are the sum of each individual team members' efforts. The more people you encourage to join your workplace's team, the better! Your workplace will compete against other workplaces of comparable staff sizes.
