After last year's success, the Aotearoa Bike Challenge Auckland Region is thrilled to again be supporting Variety – the Children’s Charity, giving disadvantaged Kiwi kids the childhood they deserve and the opportunity to reach their full potential.Â
For every $250 raised, participants can provide a Kiwi kid their very own brand-new bike and helmet through Variety's Bikes for Kids programme.
"As an incentive for everyone, we agreed that the company would donate 50cents for every km ridden. We are a small company of 5 and had 100% participation. Between us we cycled 886km and raised $443!”Â
One of our employees had entered an event but hadn’t ridden a bike in years so we had a company outing on our bikes. Not only did it help with her confidence but was also a great team building exercise”

For many New Zealand children, learning to ride a bike is a rite of passage. However, for the 1 in 4 Kiwi kids that live in deprivation, having a bike to call their own is just a dream. Variety’s Bikes for Kids programme provides disadvantaged Kiwi kids with the opportunity to have their own bike and be just like all the other kids. Each year, Variety presents brand new bikes and helmets to children at low decile schools allowing them to experience the freedom and independence that comes with owning a bike.

For every $250 raised we can provide a child with their very own, brand-new bike and helmet. We’ll even invite you along to the bike presentation where we present local kids with their brand-new bikes!
Bike recipients are children who have been nominated by people in their community - like teachers or social workers - for their commendable efforts throughout the school year or because they otherwise wouldn't have the chance to own a bike.
