This year, the Auckland Bike Challenge is thrilled to be supporting Variety – the Children’s Charity that gives disadvantaged Kiwi kids the childhood they deserve and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
They have set out to raise $25,000 to provide 100 disadvantaged Kiwi kids with their very own bike and helmet; a hallmark of childhood that benefits kids’ mental health and wellbeing, as well as imagination.

Having single-handedly raised almost $5k for Variety, 'Ryan the Lion' shares his 'Why?'
For many New Zealand children, learning to ride a bike is a rite of passage. However, for the 1 in 4 Kiwi kids that live in poverty, having a bike to call their own is just a dream.
Variety’s Bikes for Kids programme provides disadvantaged Kiwi kids with the opportunity to have their own bike and be just like all the other kids. Each year, Variety presents brand new bikes and helmets to children at low decile schools allowing them to experience the freedom and independence that comes with owning a bike.
Help us provide a bike to a Kiwi kid in need! Become an official fundraiser for the Auckland Bike Challenge, and every $250 raised will present a disadvantaged child with their very own brand-new bike and helmet! We’ll invite you to the bike presentation so you can present the bike/s you have funded to the lucky recipient of all your hard work – a local child!
Just some of the many benefits of a bike:
♥ Allows children to develop a love to ride they would otherwise miss out on
♥ Provides disadvantaged children with the same opportunities as their peers
♥ Creates lifelong memories and makes a lasting, ongoing impact
♥ Helps build confidence, independence and self-esteem
♥ Delivers health and wellbeing outcomes
♥ Encourages children to use a bike for basic transportation
♥ Leads to children and extended family biking more often
