It often does enough to confuse them giving me time to get past. have to be honest, in all my years and miles of cycling on the canal system I've only ever had them have a proper go at me on 2 occasions. Let's not forget that they are warning us off to protect their young.

Lights, lots of lights. And *blinking* lights. This is important. "Still" lights can be interpreted as stationary by inattentive drivers. I use blinking lights on my helmet front and rear. Also a bright front in light and blinking rear light on the bike. Enhance with reflective tape on the rear frame, the back of your shoes and pedals if you can. And light bright/white colors for your kit! Bee seen!
