Ah, I can highly recommend Co-Cars, which is the car club we use, they also hire out e-bikes as part of their fleet. We have cycled to my husbands parents on Dartmoor - it was definitely a challenge and combined train & cycling to my parents. I think it's just the 'norm' when it comes to owning a car for many - we had a lot of very surprised friends and family who I think thought they would never see us again!

Wow, thanks for sharing your moving story. I was diagnosed with Parkinsons four years ago. I too have trouble walking and coordination at times. Those limitations along with the pandemic have ended my lifelong basketball career. Though I can still ride a bike I bought an Ice Adventure recumbent trike with an electric assist motor. I can't stay off it I ride without the motor or with it on the lowest setting as much as possible. This is a beautiful, expensive machine, one can obtain an recumbent trike for a lot less. If your balance challenges advance, as mine may, you might consider a trike. As well as the workout I love exploring and riding through nature. There's an beautiful, 25 mile long Greenbelt in Boise and lots of trails too. Good luck!
