I ride past them with consideration for their space but if they look aggressive I usually wave my hand about a bit in a sort of "get down" gesture. It often does enough to confuse them giving me time to get past. have to be honest, in all my years and miles of cycling on the canal system I've only ever had them have a proper go at me on 2 occasions. Let's not forget that they are warning us off to protect their young.

I love riding my bike to work and do so all year round and in all weathers! it wakes the mind and gets the blood pumping ready for the day...but It is oh so much better when the sun is shining :)

It will be more or less my first day back in the office later this month (Feb 2022) due to COVID restrictions at work. Previously I had parked my car at The Hawthorns, bought a train ticket but cycled in to work instead. I am now told that you must use public transport if parking at The Hawthorns. I don't mind paying to park but surely you must be able to park and cycle without the threat of being chased for a speculative invoice. Any way, I found that "Just Park" can be used to book a parking space at Asda at Great Bridge. From there I can pick up the Walsall canal and join the Birmingham canal and carry on with my usual route.
