How's your back now? I got back into cycling after a long break for the same reason as you, I would get severe pain after standing for a few minutes. This went on for 2 years nearly. After a few months cycling the pain had completely disappeared, 18 months on my back is still great and I'm fitter than I have been for years! Now I'm commuting over 28 miles each way at least once a week + other rides too :-)

We used the argument that improvement in facilities such as showers and a drying room would encourage more employees to cycle and walk to work, and so improve the overall health of us all. We eventually had brilliant drying facility with secure hanging space (think cage with a padlock door) . The showers were cleaned and everyone got onboard looking after the space. Bosses were happy Commuters were happy so don’t give up. Best of luck. 👍🏼
