Torpedo 7

Wednesday 12 February, 12 noon - 1:30pm - Wellington Waterfront, behind Te Papa

We've teamed up with Torpedo 7 for free bike checks, epic trade deals and spot prizes to kick off the Aotearoa Bike Challenge. 

If you're contemplating commuting but you're concerned about getting stuck, we'll also have our bus bike rack so you can get some practice in before you are faced with a 'real life' situation.

Stop by for free bike tweaks, adjustments and expert knowledge. Our friendly staff are happy to fix those piercing squeaks, diagnose those mystery creaks and send you away smiling. We'll also have free filter Peoples Coffee & free donuts provided by Bike Greater Welly available so you can have a morning cuppa whilst you wait.

Two Wheels Good

Sunday 16 February, 12:00 noon - 4pm

Hosted by Prefab - Eatery & Events, Garage Project, Wrestler, and Bicycle Junction

This is a celebration of all things two-wheels, whether you’re a passionate cyclist or casual scooter shredder, all are welcome!
Prefab lane will be transformed into a summer cycle oasis- Bicycle Junction will have all manner of ebikes for test-rides, Prefab - Eatery & Events will be on the BBQ serving up hotdogs and homemade donuts, and there will be a ‘Bike Glamour Shot’ Photo Booth courtesy of Wrestler.

Ice cold beer from Garage Project and live music from Hulamen - Beer & Skittles will round out what will be an incredible day.

Get a fancy photo with your prized bike, nosh on some gourmet hotdogs, pizza & donuts, washed down with a FRESH beer; this might become a new holiday for Wellingtonians…

Arapuke Classic 2020

Sunday 16 February, 9am - 3pm - near Palmerston North

The Arapuke Classic is organised by the Manawatu Mountain Bike Club and takes riders over their choice of 3 courses, from 13 to 41 km of singletrack, in the stunning Tararua Range foothills on the doorstep of Palmerston North. The courses are predominantly purpose built singletrack with some epic downhill trails to make the most of the elevation gain.

This year includes a separate E Bike race over the 25 km course for those that need a little help getting up the hills, or want to save their energy for the downhills.

Steve’s Wholefoods is once again on board to help you refuel on the best post race food for any event in New Zealand.

Bike the Hutt

Thursday 20 February - Sunday 1 March 2020 - Hutt Valley's festival of Cycling

Wheel around over 20 events, ranging from kids racing (yep, bring your trike or balance bike!), the ever popular Bike the Trail family day out, cyclocross, road cycling and the rugged Karapoti mountain bike classic to top it all off.

Pedal & Picnic

Friday 21 February, 4:30pm - 7pm - Trentham Memorial Park

Pump up your bike tyres, pack a picnic and pedal on down to Trentham Memorial Park to join the Activation team for a fun evening of cycling skills, a Family Bike Adventure and an Under 5’s code cracker! Try some challenging cyclocross activities, or race each other around a special course! 

Pedal & Picnic is one of many bike activities available during the Bike the Hutt festival. 

Local foodtrucks will joining us to provide hot and cold treats to refuel you after your biking fun!

Women's Learn to Ride Class

Saturday 22 February, 10am - 12noon - ReBicycle Ekerua, 230 Riddiford Street, Newtown

Would you like to learn how to ride a bike? We can help you!

This is the first of four free classes just for women.

Our experienced instructors can help you to get riding safely and confidently.

We provide bikes and helmets.

Our training space is under cover and away from traffic.

On site childcare is available.

The Big Bike Scavenger Hunt

Wellington's inaugural Big Bike Scavenger Hunt is here!

Team up (or go solo) and get ready to get on yer' bikes following a list of checkpoints, clues and challenges around the Wellington CBD to contend for the glorious title of "Best Bike Scavenger(s)".

$5 for individuals or $10 for a team of 3+ riders.

Twilight Champs

Saturday 22 February, 6:30pm - 9:30pm - Hutt Valley Thunderbolts BMX Track

Hutt Valley Thunderbolts BMX is holding, for the first time in the Wellington region - Champs and Super class under lights! We will have riders from the whole region, and further north racing for the win.

See the best at BMX compete in your own backyard! Ages range from 5yrs right through to the U.C.I licensed riders. Get inspired to try it for yourself at the next Hutt Valley Thunderbolts BMX Club open day!

Finish off a day of #BiketheHutt events with an evening watching high-level riders of all ages compete under the lights.

Suffragette City - Bicycle Bash

Saturday 22 February, 7pm - 11pm - Wellington Museum (on the wharf in the Wellington CBD)

Meet at Wellington Museum on your bike to join the parade of bicycles and venture along Wellington’s waterfront to explore and find secret locations, all of which celebrate the wonderful artistic Wahine of our capital. Expect live music, visual artistry, poetry, refreshments and drama. 

Brought to you by Whistling Sisters, Bicycle Junction and Wellington Museum. This is a cyclists dream, not to be missed!


Bike the Trail - Hutt River Trail

Sunday 23 February, 9:30am - 12:30pm - Harcourt Park, Upper Hutt

Bike the Trail is a free annual biking event along the Hutt River Trail. It is non-competitive and perfect for families and people of all ages!

Come and join us on Sunday February 23rd 2020 and make the journey either 25km from Harcourt Park or 12km from Stokes Valley to Hikoikoi Reserve. We have free transport for you and your bike back to your start area.Website entries open early December, keep an eye on our Facebook page for information!

Go Home By Bike Day

Ride your bike home from school or work and drop by Dowse Square for free Friday fun, entertainment, activities and giveaways!

From 3.30pm there will be a bike rodeo, bike-in movie, free bike checks, activities and spot prizes for the after-school crew.

There's also a lot for after-work commuters! With three great hospitality venues all catering to riders, there's plenty of places to enjoy an after-work drink with friends while you enjoy the entertainment. Take part in competitions, check out the bike-themed art at the Dowse and soak in the atmosphere.

Gazley ŠKODA Karapoti Classic

Saturday 29 February, 10am - 5pm - Akatarawa Road, Upper Hutt

Established in 1986, the Gazley ŠKODA Karapoti Classic is the Southern Hemisphere's longest running mountain bike event.  

Based in Upper Hutt's rugged Akatarawa Ranges, 40k north of Wellington City, this old-school adventure ride combines a huge but achievable challenge with superb scenery and an awesome social scene. With options ranging from the feature 50k Classic to the 20k Challenge and the Kids' 5k Klassic, plus corporate and family team options, there's something for everyone. 

The 2020 Gazley ŠKODA Karapoti Classic will celebrate the 35th anniversary of NZ's original mountain bike race. Scheduled for Saturday February 29, it will also be the first ever Leap Day Karapoti.

Discover how to cruise around the Hutt with ease! Have a go on one of our e-bikes with this free taster session. Part of 'Bike the Hutt Festival of Cycling'.

Thinking about buying an e-bike? Come have a try on one of ours and see if you like it. This taster session with Pedal Ready instructors will allow you to try out an e-bike without the pressure to buy.

Places are limited to 10 people per session. Bikes and helmets available on request.

Picnic by Bike: Frocks & Finery

Saturday 29 February, 2pm - 3:30pm - Hutt River, Lower Hutt

Dress up, bring your cruiser & ride with us alongside the beautiful Hutt River.

Meet your friends down atthe Riverbank Market and pick up your FREE locally-sourced picnic pack from the RiverLink beach area. Participants are invited to dress in vintage clothing.

Pedal away on a guided tour of the Hutt River, then relax and enjoy a cup of coffee and some great photo opportunities.

The ride will be no more than an hour & will cover around 15k at a very cruisy pace - for more detail, see the event page here.

All of March - School initiative

Loved getting on your bike? Want to get your kids more active too?  

Movin’March is a month-long event open to all primary school-aged children encouraging walking and “wheeling” to and from school across the Wellington region.  

Once schools have registered, students record their walking and wheeling trips to go in the draw to win one of 12 x $400 MyRide vouchers.  

Plus there are heaps of other prizes and competitions including... a daily parents’ Facebook photo competition, Share Your Story blog, junior student art challenge, and senior students Movin' Minds competition.
