The Department of Transport and WestCycle are pleased to announce that Western Australia’s annual celebration of people riding bikes for transport, fun and a healthier lifestyle will now be celebrated over an entire month starting this November 2019.

For more than 30 years, Bike Week has played an integral role in promoting bike riding across Western Australia (WA). Over this time, Bike Week has evolved from a bustling Bike to Work Breakfast in the Perth CBD to a state-wide campaign where dozens of schools, workplaces, local governments, cycling clubs and community organisations held local events right across the State.

Riding in WA has never been more popular. Every week, more than 400,000 Western Australians ride a bike and with record investment been made in bike infrastructure, there was a great opportunity to expand the celebration from a week to an entire month to encourage more people to ride a bike more often.

To introduce WA’s first Bike Month, we are challenging Western Australians to take part in an exciting new program - the WA Bike Month Challenge. WA Bike Month will take place for the entire month of November 2019. In 2020, the WA Bike Month Program will see the return of grants to support schools, workplaces, clubs and community organisations to run their own Bike Month events.
