Transitioning from organizing events for a large county to a smaller town like Ithaca definitely presents its own unique opportunities and challenges, but it sounds like you're making great strides in bringing the community together around biking. Creating a sense of camaraderie among local cyclists and promoting bike safety and awareness are essential steps towards fostering a thriving biking culture in Ithaca. Offering free bike repairs and prizes for visiting multiple pit stops adds a fun and engaging element to the event, encouraging participation and reinforcing positive biking habits. This is really good, a lot of traffic could be cut from town and city centres if more people realised that "last few miles" commuting is really easy! There needs to be more done from councils to promote "last few miles" commuting. All "Park and Rides" should advertise it. However I think the bus companies probably stop it happening or have a conflict of interest, hence why you dont see it more. there is a whole secret world of people who do this, me included!.
