Riding in your local area:
Sitka is a long standing Bicycle Friendly Community and in 2016 was designated at the Silver Level for BFC. Sitka has a network of bike lanes and designated bike routes throughout the city, making it easy to get around by bike. Many of the main streets have bike lanes, and there are also plenty of off-street paths and trails. Biking in Sitka is a fantastic way to explore its natural beauty and vibrant community and a great way to go to school, work or for play!
In partnership with Visit Sitka, the Sitka Cycling Club and cycling advocates the following map was developed: https://visitsitka.org/wp-cont...
Local rides for new cyclist:
Saw Mill Creek shared multi use path. Starts near downtown on SMC Road and Jeff Davis St and continues 7 miles out the road. It’s a great ride with a few hills, lots of scenic views and stops along the way for other adventures (trail hikes, picnic lunch at Whale Park). The shared pathway makes for a comfortable and separated path for commuting to and from school or work.
Cross Trail Single Track - 907 Single Track Trail: This loop trail is one a favorite among mountain bikers, with several other less difficult and more challenging single track trails just off the Cross Trail. The 907 Trail is a great option for riders seeking an adventurous experience.
