Durham County Council is working in partnership with Cycling UK to help raise awareness of the Dutch Reach Campaign.
35% of drivers admit to not looking for cyclists before opening their car door.Â
Every year, over 500 people across England, Wales and Scotland are injured because someone opens a car door into their path - and these are just the injuries which are reported to police - many more are never reported. If we want more people cycling more safely, we need everyone to make this simple technique part of their everyday routine.
By making the Dutch Reach an everyday habit we can help save hundreds of cyclists from injury every year. The Adshel campaign starts from the 27 January and runs for 6 weeks, look out for the campaign throughout the county.
