These routes provide convenient connections to Major Activity Centres in Heidelberg, Ivanhoe and Greensborough.
The Yarra River forms Banyule’s south-eastern boundary, while Darebin Creek defines its western edge. Both waterways feature shared paths that wind through stunning natural landscapes, catering to riders of all ages and abilities.
This scenic, mostly flat and gently winding shared path follows Banyule’s southern boundary from Lower Plenty to Ivanhoe. It connects with the Darebin Creek and Plenty River Trails, providing access to destinations such as the Heidelberg Activity Centre, local parks and recreation areas, and even Melbourne’s CBD.
A generally flat shared path running from Greensborough to Viewbank, the Plenty River Trail links with the Main Yarra Trail. Along the way, it offers convenient connections to the Greensborough Activity Centre, Montmorency Neighbourhood Centre, and a range of parks and open spaces.
This shared path runs downhill from north to south, stretching from Lower Plenty Road to Heidelberg. It connects with the Main Yarra Trail and leads to key destinations including the Heidelberg Activity Centre and the picturesque Warringal Parklands.
A flat, easy-to-ride shared path extending from Heidelberg West to Ivanhoe. This trail provides access to the Ivanhoe Activity Centre, Northland Shopping Centre, and numerous parks and recreational areas.
Running downhill from west to east, this shared path links Bundoora to Yallambie. It offers connections to Bundoora/Plenty Road, the Watsonia Neighbourhood Centre, and local parks. Please note: some sections require riding on suburban streets.

Banyule is renowned for its rolling terrain, particularly in the eastern and northern areas around Greensborough and Montmorency, where gradients exceeding 5% are common—perfect for riders looking to put their legs to the test.
For a longer challenge, whether for leisure, fitness, or to commute, try riding the Main Yarra Trail all the way to Melbourne’s CBD. The link between the Plenty River Trail and the Main Yarra Trail offers a winding, hilly route past the iconic Viewbank Silos, featuring steep gradients and a gravel surface. Prefer a sustained climb? Tackle the Banyule Trail heading north or the Power Easement Trail from east to west for an uphill ride that will test your endurance.
