Where to Ride

Where to ride in the Sacramento RegionĀ

Riding in your local area

Our region provides awesome opportunities for riding, with extensive trail networks throughout the area. The Central Valley is fairly flat, but hills arenā€™t too far away if thatā€™s your jam. Flat trails, mountain bike singletrack, the American River Parkway and on-road facilities can take you to your destination or get you outside for recreation. The Sacramento region has it all!

Local rides for new cyclists

The easiest place to ride in Sacramento is on the American River Parkway. Thirty miles of ļ¬‚at trail that meanders along the scenic American River, with plenty of options for shorter routes. Itā€™s a 30 mile bike trail from Discovery Park in Sacramento all the way up to Folsom and is one of the most frequented trails in the entire USA.Ā

Or, consider from Davis to Winters (15 miles one way) via the Russell bike path and Putah Creek Road. Quiet roads with orchards and farms will get you into the cool town of Winters which has great coffee and other food and beverage.

Local bike hire

If you want to hire a bicycle for the day or try out a new ride, head over to Mikeā€™sĀ Bikes in Sacramento, the Trek Bike Store in Midtown or Practical Cycles inĀ Sacramento or Folsom.

West Sacramento to Clarksburg. This 44-mile (RT) ride starts from the Southport Town Center at the intersection of Lake Washington and Jefferson boulevards in West Sacramento and runs south along the Sacramento River for eight milesĀ (including about three miles of gravel road) before cutting to the southwest, and taking you on a tour of delta country. Youā€™ll hit Clarksburg around mile 14, where Husickā€™s Taphouse and BBQ is great for cafĆ© and grub, or push on two more miles to Bogle Winery.Ā

Or, try the challenging Around the Mountain. From Winters, head up highway 128 around the Berryessa Damn and then to Highway 121 towards Napa. Make a sharp left and cruise down Wooden Valley among gorgeous orchards, and drop into Mankas Corners for a bite. Return to Davis via Fairļ¬eld, Pleasantā€™s Valley Road and back to Winters.
